Each year Joanie Carmichael wished for a puppy when she blew out the candles on her birthday cake. This year her wish came true with not just one puppy, but two!

Class meanie, MiShawn, takes a break from calling Joanie "Joanie Bolonie" when she meets the first puppy, but it won't last long after an accident at the park insures her a visit from the tooth fairy! Things will soon get more exciting for Joanie after she learns that she gets to travel the world with her family, a tutor (whatever that means!) and her brand spankin' new puppies!

This first book in the Joanie Adventure series takes the reader along with Joanie as she adopts her puppies and quickly finds out that taking care of puppies requires more of her than just getting puppy kisses and handing out doggie treats!

Chapter One: Stink Eye

The best thing about my birthdays, besides all the presents, is blowing out my candles ‘cause I get to make a wish. And every year I always wish for the same thing as the year before.

I wish for a puppy.

This is the year that I turn six. And finally my wish for a puppy is going to come true ‘cause mommy and daddy promised that when I turned six I finally get to get my very own puppy!

My two friends at Dorsett Elementary, Lori and Dana, both keep talking about wanting ponies. I think that maybe it’s ‘cause they already have dogs so they probably just forget how exciting it is to have a puppy. When I get mine I’ll have to have them over so they can remember.

“You can’t ride a puppy, silly.” Lori said.

We were standing in line to go outside to recess.

Recess is when you get to play for 15 minutes instead of learning. It’s my favorite part of going to school! It’s ‘cause I get to spend time with my buddies and Lori and Dana are my buddies. We’re BFF’s, which stands for Bestest Friends Forever. I have a lot of friends but only a few special BFF’s like Lori and Dana. Oh, Julie and Kathy are BFF’s too. And Lynne. But that’s it. Wait, Karen and Linda are too and Nan, of course, but that’s it. Shelly too, but that’s it. I guess a girl can never have too many BFF’s!
